Even after giving the above link to the recipes page for cupcakes, I should state that there really is no difference between cupcake batter and cake batter. Simply look at the name, cupcake, it's shows that they're nothing more than a cake that fits in a cup!

The only thing to keep in mind when learning how to make cupcakes is the difference in cooking time. Since you're typically using a number of small containers vs one large container, the cook time will be shorter.
It's almost always recommended to use cupcake liners when baking your cupcakes, even when using a non-stick pan, their moisture level causes them to stick very easily.
Here is a table of standard cook times for cupcakes, baking at 350°F.

These are standard cooking times and may vary depending on the pan you use and the oven-temperature the recipe calls for. If in doubt, always use the time and temperature your recipe calls for.
Testing for doneness is the same as with a normal cake. The easiest method is to insert a toothpick into the center of the cupcake, if it comes out clean, it's cooked.
