Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

Chocolate Chip Cookies are the most iconic cookie in America and there's no better cookies in my opinion than delicious, gooey, chewy chocolate chip cookies.

There's a chocolate chip cookie recipe for every grandma on the planet, but what are the best chocolate chip cookies? Well, that's a very personal question. Some like their chocolate chip cookies with walnuts, pecans or other nuts, some like them without, some like them thick, soft and gooey, some like them thin and crisp.

This particular chocolate chip cookie recipe creates a dough that's meant to be formed into balls or a log and chilled prior to baking, it's not meant to be spooned onto the baking sheets.

For the best flavor, it's always advisable to use quality chocolate chips, butter and vanilla, you can also use cake flour for a more chewy cookie. Plus, if you are using a very dark or black baking sheet you should lower the oven temperature 15-20°F, this avoids overly crisp cookies.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar, light or dark, packed
  • 1/2 c. butter, unsalted, room temperature
  • 1/2 c. vegetable shortening
  • 1 lb. chocolate chips, semi-sweet or milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. pecans or walnuts, chopped

Procedure:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line your cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the dry ingredients except the nuts and chocolate chips, set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter, shortening and sugar until light.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time then add the vanilla.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
  6. Use a spoon to stir in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using.
  7. Divide the dough into two portions and place on parchment paper. Roll the parchment paper around the dough and form into a log such as the logs you see cookie dough come in at the store. The diameter of the formed log will be nearly the diameter of the cooked cookie.
  8. Twist the ends tightly and refrigerate until fully chilled. (even if you don't want to wrap your dough it should be fully chilled prior to baking)
  9. When ready to bake, cut the dough into approximately 1/2 in. slices, place on parchment-lined cookie sheets and bake in preheated oven for 10-12 minutes.
  10. Allow chocolate chip cookies to cool on the cookie sheets.
