Sugar Cookies Recipe
Sugar cookies make some of the best 'cookie cutter' cookies (with the possible exception of gingerbread cookies), a good sugar cookie recipe will hold its shape when baking and will allow the easy application of frosting.
Learning to make good sugar cookies will provide you with a wide array of possibilities for parties, gifts and other occasions.
This particular sugar cookie recipe is perfect for use with cookie cutters, however you can also roll the dough into balls, coat with sugar, flatten down and bake.
Ingredients:
- 2 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 c. unaslted butter, softened
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 tsp. ground mace
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Procedure:
- Mix the flour, mace and baking powder, set aside.
- Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the vanilla then beat in the egg until fluffy.
- Gruadually mix in the dry mixture, just until fully incorporated.
- Cut the dough in half and wrap each piece in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours.
- Heat oven to 325°F and lightly grease your cookie sheets.
- Removing only 1/2 the dough from the fridge at t a time, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface until it's about 1/8 in. Cut as desired and transfer to a lightly greased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow cookies to cool on sheet for 1 minute before moving them to wire wracks to finish cooling.
- Once fully cool you can add an icing if desired.
